As far as gestures of Jersey pride go, it’s hard to top Titus Andronicus, a band, originally from Glen Rock, that shot the video for its 2010 song, “No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future” at various locations throughout the state.

Frontman Patrick Stickles addresses viewers directly in the video’s intro: “You people out there, you think you know New Jersey. You think ’cause you’ve seen ‘The Sopranos’, ‘The Real Housewives,’ you’ve seen ‘Jersey Shore,’ you heard about the garbage dumps, you’ve smelled the Meadowlands when you were driving down the Turnpike …  you think you know New Jersey? You don’t know anything about New Jersey. That’s why … we’re going to show the world, through this video, what New Jersey’s really all about.”

Stickles sets the song in the Garden State as well, singing, in the second verse, about time spent at Ramapo College: “Senior year here in Mahwah/A new world just around the corner/Leave me behind, let me stagnate/In a fortress of solitude.”

The song is from the band’s 2010 album, The Monitor. Check out the video below.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday last year. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we are marking the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, for almost a year — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. We started in September 2014, and will keep going until late in the summer.

If you would like to suggest any songs to be included, please let me know in the comments section underneath the video. And if you want to see the entire list, either alphabetically or in the order the songs were selected, click here.
