Samantha Montgomery, who performs her music under the name Princess Shaw, is the subject of the movie, “Presenting Princess Shaw.”

The complete lineup of the April 29-May 8 Montclair Film Festival won’t be announced until April 5, but the opening, closing and documentary and narrative centerpiece films have been announced (as well as the “Love, Actually” screening and Stephen Colbert’s interview of “Love Actually” director Richard Curtis, both on April 30).

“Life, Animated” — a documentary about Owen Suskind, an autistic boy who couldn’t speak for years but subsequently memorized dozens of Disney movies — will be the 7:30 p.m. April 29 opening night film at the Wellmont Theater, and director Roger Ross Williams, Suskind and members of Suskind’s family will appear at a post-show discussion moderated by Stephen Colbert.

Ido Haar’s “Presenting Princess Shaw,” about New Orleans singer Samantha Montgomery (known as Princess Shaw), will be the documentary centerpiece, May 6 at 8 p.m. the wellmont, with Princess Shaw participating in a Q&A session.

“Indignation,” adapted from the Philip Roth Novel, will be the narrative centerpiece on May 7 at 4:30 p.m. at the Wellmont, and director James Schamus will participate in a Q&A session

The closing night film, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wellmont, will be Barbara Kopple’s “Miss Sharon Jones!,” a documentary about soul singer Sharon Jones. Kopple and members of Jones’ band The Dap Kings will appear in a Q&A session.
