World premiere musicals based on the beloved sitcom “The Honeymooners” and the popular, Academy Award-winning movie “The Sting” will be part of the 2017-18 season at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.

John Rando and Joshua Bergasse, who previously worked together on the 2014 Broadway revival of “On the Town,” will direct and choreograph “The Honeymooners,” respectively. In a press release, Rando said the musical “celebrates the universal story of two underdogs striving to achieve their dreams, and the compromises of their married lives.”

Bob Martin, who wrote the book for “The Sting,” said it “retains all of the wit and depression era charm of the original — the complex characters, the sophisticated story, the twists and surprises — and adds a sly self-awareness that keeps it relevant.”

Here is the season schedule:

Sept. 28-Oct. 29: “The Honeymooners”
Nov. 22-Dec. 31: “Annie”
Jan. 24-Feb. 18: The East Coast premiere of the political satire “The Outsider,” written by Paul Slade Smith.
March 29-April 29, 2018: “The Sting.”
May 31-July 1, 2018: The East Coast premiere of the musical “Half Time” — about high school dancers auditioning for a chance to dance at half time for a major basketball team — with music by Matthew Sklar (“Elf,” “The Wedding Singer”) and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (“Legally Blonde”).

Season subscriptions are now on sale, with single tickets going sale in August. For information, visit papermill.org.
