“This was the world where I found the beginnings of my song,” Bruce Springsteen wrote of his religious upbringing in his 2016 autobiography, “Born to Run.”
“In Catholicism,” he continued, “there existed the poetry, danger and darkness that reflected my imagination and my inner self. I found a land of great and harsh beauty, of fantastic stories, of unimaginable punishment and infinite reward.”
Azzan Yadin-Israel — a Rutgers University professor who has taught an honors seminar on “Bruce Springsteen Theologies” and is the author of the 2016 book, “The Grace of God and the Grace of Man: The Theologies of Bruce Springsteen” — will discuss the subject with William Storrar, director of the Center of Theological Inquiry, March 23 at 7 p.m. at the center’s Luce Hall, at 50 Stockton St. in Princeton.
The building is across the street from the Morven Museum & Garden, which is hosting an exhibition, “Bruce Springsteen: A Photographic Journey,” through May 21. The event is co-sponsored by Morven, the center, and the Princeton Public Library.
