There is no word yet on the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s plans for its 2021-22 season, which could begin in September or October. But the NJSO will present nine outdoor chamber music concerts at the Alice Ransom Dreyfuss Memorial Garden at the Newark Museum of Art, this summer.
The nine events are divided into three three-concert mini-series.
The orchestra’s resident artistic catalyst, Daniel Bernard Roumain, will curate “NJSO & DBR: Now, New and Next,” featuring “new works, underrepresented voices and classics of the chamber music repertoire,” according to a press release.
The orchestra concertmaster, Eric Wyrick, will curate a three-concert series featuring works by Florence Price, Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Coleridge-Taylor and others.
The remaining three shows will be family-oriented.
Safety measures will include socially distanced seating, mandatory masks, and temperature checks. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Here is the schedule:
June 9, 7 p.m.: “Togetherness with DBR.”
June 16, 7 p.m.: “Hearing and Healing with DBR.”
Aug. 11, 7 p.m.: “Who We Are with DBR.”
Daniel Bernard Roumain, curator. Works by Bach, Brahms, Florence Price, Gabriela Lena Frank, Allison Loggins-Hill and Roumain, featuring collaborations with dancers, actors and guest artists.

June 23, 7 p.m.: Price’s Five Folksongs in Counterpoint and Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20.
July 7, 7 p.m.: Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 12; Coleridge-Taylor’s Clarinet Quartet in F-Sharp Minor, Op. 10.
July 21, 7 p.m.: Beethoven’s Septet in E-flat Major and various wind serenades.
