Gene Turonis — better known as Gene D. Plumber, a plumber by day and musician by night — has been a member of the Hoboken music scene since the ’70s, and put out some self-released albums over the decades. But Turonis, 72, will release his first album on a well established label, Hoboken’s Bar/None Records, May 11.

All the Pretty Girls, which he describes as “swinging honkytonk-a-billy,” will feature originals material as well as covers of songs such as the 1983 George Jones hit, “I Always Get Lucky With You,” and Chris Kenner’s rollicking “I Like It Like That.”

The album started as a series of demos that Turonis recorded in Austin. Bar/None owner Glenn Morrow, a longtime Gene D. Plumber fan, heard them, and was impressed.

Singer-songwriter Marc Jonson led sessions to fill the sessions out, with a supporting cast that included keyboardist Charles Giordano, a touring member of the Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band since 2008.
