Cirque du Soleil will present its “Amaluna” show near the Livingston Mall, “under the big top,” from June 12 to July 14

Diane Paulus, who won a Tony in 2013 for directing a revival of “Pippin,” wrote and directed “Amaluna,” which is described in a press release as “a celebration of love and a tribute to the work and voice of women,” as well as a work that “invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. … In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor.”

Paulus’ inspirations for the work are listed as “tales from Greek and Norse mythology, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Shakespeare’s The Tempest.”

Most of the cast and all of the band will be female.

Tickets go on sale Feb. 14 (visit cirquedusoleil.com/amaluna), with presale tickets currently available to Cirque Club members (visit cirquedusoleil.com/en/cirque-club/form/subscribe).

Cirque du Soleil (French for “Circus of the Sun”) is based in Montreal, and is considered the largest theatrical producing company in the world. Its shows typically combine acrobatics, dance and music with colorful costumes and a story that holds it all together.
