Bill Nye, John Turturro to converse with Stephen Colbert at Montclair Film Festival

“Bill Nye: Science Guy” will be shown at this year’s Montclair Film Festival.

Longtime Montclair Film Festival supporter Stephen Colbert will once again be involved this year, making two appearances at the sixth annual festival, taking place from April 28 to May 7.

Colbert and Bill Nye will appear in “an extended post-screening discussion” after “Bill Nye: Science Guy” — a documentary about the former children’s show host’s “quest to change the world through science advocacy and education” — is shown at the Wellmont Theater, May 6 at 4 p.m. And Colbert will moderate a discussion with veteran actor John Turturro at the Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School, April 30 at 1 p.m.

Also, the festival will feature two music performances. A 7:30 p.m. May 1 screening of Thomas Lennon’s “Sacred,” a documentary about religious rituals throughout the world, will be followed by a live performance the film’s music directed by its composer, Edward Bilous. And Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo will perform following a screening of a documentary about him, “Hello Hello Hello: Lee Ranaldo: Electric Trim,” May 6 at 7:45 p.m. at the Clairidge Cinema 2.

A timely conversation titled “True or False? Reporting in the ‘Fake News’ Era” will take place at the Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School, April 30 at 5 p.m., and feature journalist Jonathan Alter.

The festival’s opening, closing and centerpiece films have already been announced, and its full program has been posted today at montclairfilmfest.org.

Festival tickets are now available for Montclair Film members, and will go on sale to the general public April 7, online and at the festival’s box office in the lobby of the Investors Bank Film & Media Center at 505 Bloomfield Ave.

Colbert lives in Montclair and is a member of the festival’s advisory board. His wife, Evelyn Colbert, is president of the festival’s board of trustees.
