ROB REINER

Rob Reiner will make an appearance at an April 17 screening of the groundbreaking 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” at Prudential Hall at NJPAC in Newark. Reiner — who directed the movie as well as co-writing it and co-starring in it — will participate in a conversation after the screening.

The screening will be at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Nov. 22 at 10 a.m., with pre-sales starting Nov. 20 at 10 a.m.. Visit ticketmaster.com.

Reiner, 72, first became famous as an actor, in the ’70s, as a co-star of the controversial but extremely popular sitcom “All in the Family.” “This Is Spinal Tap” was his directorial debut; he later directed films such as “Stand by Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally …,” “Misery,” “A Few Good Men” and “The Bucket List.”

Here is a classic scene of Reiner in “This Is Spinal Tap.” He plays filmmaker Martin Di Bergi — who is making a documentary about the intermittently successful but often clueless heavy metal band Spinal Tap — with Christopher Guest as band member Nigel Tufnel.
