The Montclair-based educational organization, Jazz House Kids, has created a Jazz House Kids Relief Fund to help it survive through the pandemic, and will raise money for it with an online benefit, “Playing Through the Changes,” June 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Hosted by NBC anchorman Lester Holt and curated by Jazz House Kids artistic chair Christian McBride, the benefit will feature rare concert and interview footage from the Jazz House Kids archives of Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Dianne Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diana Krall, Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane, the Christian McBride Big Band featuring Melissa Walker, Andra Day, Eddie Palmieri, Sheila E., José James, David Sanborn, Ingrid Jensen, Angelique Kidjo and the late Al Jarreau and George Duke. All have participated in Jazz House Kids programs in the past.
The benefit will also feature live performances by artists TBA, and the debut of the 75-member Jazz House Alumni All-Stars Super Band, performing in a socially distanced manner.
Jazz House Kids had to cancel its annual spring gala (scheduled for last month at City Winery in New York), due to the pandemic. It is currently presenting its programs online only.
