Paul Jost, who presented a jazz interpretation of Bruce Springsteen’s classic Born to Run album at the Exit 0 Jazz Festival in Cape May in May, will do so again at the 55 Bar in New York on Aug. 12. The show celebrates the 40th anniversary of the album’s release date, which was Aug. 25, 1975.
The club is at 55 Christopher St., and there will be no cover. The show will begin at 7 p.m. For information, visit 55bar.com.
Jost, who lives in Vineland, will sing and play guitar and harmonica, with backing by Jim Ridl (piano), Tony Miceli (vibraphone), John Swana (E.V.I.), Chico Huff (bass) and Anwar Marshall (drums). Jost and Barry Miles arranged the material together, having been commissioned to do so by Exit Zero producer Michael Kline.
“The thing about Springsteen, his lyrics are just so wonderful. I love his lyrics, and that’s what I’m using, really, as the inspiration,” Jost said in a May interview with NJArts.net.
“When I do this arranging sort of thing with other songs, whether they’re standards or pop tunes, or whatever, I try to bring a different approach to it, so that people hear the lyrics in a different way. I’m not just banging it out. I’m really trying to embrace it, and make a little bit of a statement. I’m hoping that if Bruce heard some of this stuff, he’d say, ‘Yeah, that’s cool, I like that.’ ”
