NJPAC announces Sounds of the City lineup: Junior Marvin, New Power Generation, more

Julian Junior Marvin (bottom, center) will perform at NJPAC’s Sounds of the City series on July 25.

Following one of its annual traditions, NJPAC in Newark will present free, outdoor shows on Thursdays this summer, in its Sounds of the City program. Performers will include reggae great Julian Junior Marvin (of Bob Marley’s Wailers), Prince’s New Power Generation group (performing his music), salsa singer Charlie Cruz, and Newark-based hip-hop group Lords of the Underground.

The shows will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chambers Plaza, in front of NJPAC’s main entrance. Food will be available via food trucks and NJPAC’s NICO Kitchen + Bar, which has some outdoor seating.

Aug. 15: The Walls Group, The String Queens
Aug. 22: The Davell Crawford Movement, The VooDudes
Aug. 29: Lords of the Underground, DJ Wallah and students from NJPAC’s Hip Hop Intensive
