Spryo Gyra will headline the free Hoboken Fall Arts and Music Festival on Sept. 25.

Leon Russell was scheduled to headline this Spring’s Hoboken Arts and Music Festival, but when the event was postponed because of weather, he was unavailable to perform on the new date. So he planned to headline the fall edition of the biannual festival, Sept. 25. But a heart attack he suffered in July forced him to cancel or postpone all performances through September.

He is planning to return to the road in October, though, and is scheduled to perform at Hoboken’s Spring Arts and Music Festival on May 7, 2017.

In the meantime, though, the jazz fusion group Spyro Gyra — featuring Hoboken resident Julio Fernandez on guitar — has been hired to replace him as the headliner of the fall festival. Other performers will include Swingadelic, The Amazing Incredibles, The Hudson City Rats, The Zydeco Revelators, Mya Hansen, Jeremy Beck & the Uptown Horns, Chrissy Roberts, Emily & the Ideals, Preschool of Rock, Jason Didner & the Jungle Gym Jam, and Frankie Morales & the Mambo of the Times Orchestra.

The free festival will take place on Washington Street between the Observer Highway and Seventh Street, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be two music stages, plus one for children’s entertainment, as well as art and crafts displays, food vendors and more. For information, visit hobokennj.gov.
