Asbury Park Calling: Stone Pony to host all-star tribute to Joe Strummer

An Aug. 19 concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park will salute the late Joe Strummer.

The Stone Pony in Asbury Park will host “Summer Strummer,” an all-star tribute to the late Joe Strummer, Aug. 19. Jesse Malin and his band, The Vansaders and Matty Carlock will perform, and there will also be an all-star Strummer tribute set featuring Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, Ted Leo, Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus, Richard Barone of The Bongos, Daniel Rey of The Dictators, Mike Montali of Hollis Brown, Anthony D’Amato and Danny Clinch.

Tickets, priced at $22 in advance ($25 day of show), go on sale at 10 a.m. July 22; visit stoneponyonline.com.

Strummer, best known for his work with The Clash, died in 2002, at the age of 50. His 65th birthday would have been Aug. 21 of this year.

The concert, which is being co-presented by Malin and WBJB-FM music director Jeff Raspe, will raise money for Music & Memory, a nonprofit organization that brings music to the elderly or infirmed; and the Joe Strummer Foundation, whose mission is to”provide opportunities to musicians and support to projects around the world that create empowerment through music.”
