The Bizarre World of Frank Zappa Tour will have two New Jersey stops.

Frank Zappa, who died in 1993, will appear in hologram form, with a band featuring some of his former supporting musicians, on the Bizarre World of Frank Zappa Tour. Dates are scheduled for the United States in April and early May, and in Europe in late May.

The U.S. stops will include the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, April 22, and the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood, May 2. Tickets go on sale Feb. 15 at 10 a.m.; click here for Red Bank, here for Collingswood.

The band will feature guitarists Ray White and Mike Keneally, bassist Scott Thunes, multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin, percussionist Ed Mann and drummer Joe Travers.

The tour is being produced in cooperation with the Zappa Family Trust, and uses private 1974 performances by Zappa that have never been released before.

Zappa’s son, Ahmet, said in a press release that the concerts will premiere a “handful” of his father’s compositions and will “celebrate the music, often surreal imagery and humour synonymous with Frank. We will be pushing the limits of what anyone has seen holographically on stage before in a live venue. Circumstances, objects, places and subject matter from Frank’s songs and imagination will be brought to life for the first time on stage. We are anthropomorphizing Frank’s music utilizing various visual techniques, art styles, classic imagery from his album artwork and characters from his songs, culminating in one extremely bizarre, live music experience.

“My father and I actively discussed 3D and ‘holography’ and it was a concept he actively engaged in. He actually devoted half a chapter of his ‘The Real Frank Zappa Book’ to this subject. … I feel like I am finishing something my father started years ago.”

Other tour stops will include the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., April 19, the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, N.Y., April 24, and the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., May 1.
