Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April

Bon Jovi and The Moody Blues, long shunned by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters, have finally been selected for induction in the class of 2018. Also getting in are Dire Straits, The Cars, Nina Simone and, in the Early Influence category, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

“Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Class of 2018. Could not have done it without our fans! Thanks for all of the support along the way,” said the band, which won this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote, on its Facebook page.

“It’s a Christmas miracle,” keyboardist David Bryan told Rolling Stone, though, given the timing, “Hanukkah miracle” would have been better. “[We were] guys living the dream, getting on a bus with no guarantees in any way shape or form or anything. It was, ‘Let’s go out and make this happen.’ And we actually did.”

According to the Hall, current members Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan and Tico Torres will be inducted, along with original members Richie Sambora and Alec John Such. (Current members Hugh McDonald and Phil X will not be inducted).

“I haven’t had the opportunity to hear from either of them (Sambora and Such) but without a doubt, they both will be invited and asked to not only come and share it, but to perform,” Jon Bon Jovi told the Asbury Park Press.

Sambora released his own statement, saying: “It’s certainly an honor to be recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I am thinking about all of my heroes and my peers that have been inducted before me — it’s great to be in that queue. It is the best feeling. I also want to say how much I love my fans and thank them for helping us get here.”

Among the nominees not selected for induction were Radiohead, Judas Priest, Rage Against the Machine, The J. Geils Band, Depeche Mode, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, The Meters, Link Wray, Eurythmics, L.L. Cool J, Kate Bush, The Zombies and The MC5.

The induction ceremony will take place April 14 at Public Hall in Cleveland, with highlights to be aired later on HBO.
