Discussing his early days as a musician with Rolling Stone magazine in 1984, Bruce Springsteen said, “Mainly, we planned to be just like the Rolling Stones. They were the band we liked the best at the time.”
Since it was announced today that the next release in Bruce Springsteen’s archival album series will include a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Street Fighting Man,” it seemed like a good time to take a look back at the times at which The Boss covered the Stones, or crossed paths with them, over the years, including the two times he has appeared onstage with the full band (in 2012 and 2014).
“Street Fighting Man” is the Rolling Stones song that has been covered the most by Springsteen and the E Street Band. They did so 27 times in 1984, and once in 1985.
