Bruce Springsteen called in to his E Street Radio channel on SiriusXM satellite radio today, and in an approximately nine-minute interview with DJs Dave Marsh and Jim Rotolo, shared some pretty big news: That he and his frequent film collaborator Thom Zimny are making a performance film for the songs on his recent album, Western Stars, played start-to-finish, “along with some other things.”

It’s “looking good,” he said, adding that he plans to release it by the end of the year.

“We knew we weren’t going to tour,” he said, meaning he isn’t going to do a tour focused on the Western Stars material, “so I was looking for a way to get some of the music, live, to an audience, and so we figured that was the best way to do it.”

He said he won’t be touring because he’s “still working on some other things (in the studio), too.”

He also thanked his audience for embracing Western Stars. “I thought the record was a little off to the left, and I really didn’t know what kind of response it was going to get,” he said.

He said his audience “really follows me where I need to go,” and that “if you want to be great, you need to have a great audience. That’s just something that I’m very proud of, over the years: how we developed together, and we’ve grown together. That was my dream as a young musician.”

Springsteen also said, in the interview, that he sang on one cut of E Street Band bassist Garry Tallent’s upcoming album, More Like Me.
