Chic to team with Earth, Wind and Fire for summer tour

by JAY LUSTIG

NILE RODGERS

When it was announced, last year, that Nile Rodgers — whose long list of credits includes collaborations with everyone from Michael Jackson to Daft Punk — would be joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a winner of its Award for Musical Excellence, he told Rolling Stone that it felt “bittersweet.”

“I’m a little perplexed because even though I’m quite flattered that they believed that I was worthy, my band Chic didn’t win,” he said. “They plucked me out of the band and said, ‘You’re better than Chic.’ That’s wacky to me. The only reason why I met Bowie and Madonna and Duran Duran and INXS is because they all loved Chic.”

Rodgers and Chic — who had some huge hits in the ’70s and early ’80s, including “Good Times” and “Le Freak” — will be out on the road this summer as part of a double bill tour with Earth, Wind & Fire titled 2054 The Tour. The tour’s lone Jersey stop will take place Aug. 4 at the Prudential Center in Newark. Tickets go on sale April 29 at 10 a.m.; visit prucenter.com for information.

Other shows will include the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Aug. 1; and Madison Square Garden in New York, Aug. 7.

I have no idea what the significance of 2054 is. I’m trying to find out and will add that information when I do.
