Clemons, Grushecky, Nile among those confirmed for main Light of Day concert

JAKE CLEMONS

Jake Clemons, Joe Grushecky, Willie Nile and Jesse Malin are among the artists who have been confirmed for the main Light of Day concert, taking place at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m.

The event sold out long ago, presumably because there is a good chance that Bruce Springsteen will perform — he has been at 11 of the 16 previous Light of Day main concerts, though his participation has never been announced ahead of time. With Springsteen making an appearance at Monmouth University last night, his upcoming tour not starting until Jan. 22 (in Perth, Australia), and lots of friends and associates on the bill, it would seem like his participation this year is a good possibility, though there are no guarantees.

The event’s current lineup, subject to change, is: Clemons, Grushecky and the Houserockers, Nile and Band, Malin and Band, Joe D’Urso and Stone Caravan, James Maddock and Band, Remember Jones, Bobby Bandiera, The Battery Electric, Jeffrey Gaines, Chuck Prophet, Ed Manion, Porter and Sayles, Emily Grove, Peter Elkas and Terra Lightfoot, Miss Emily, Rob Dye and The Fireplaces.

Clemons — who is the late Clarence Clemons’ nephew, and has played saxophone in the E Street Band since 2012 — will release a new album, Fear & Love, Jan. 13. He will also perform at the Clarence Clemons tribute concert at the Cutting Room in New York, tonight, which is a Light of Day show.

In other Light of Day news, a sneak preview of never-before-seen clips from a new version of the Clarence Clemons documentary, “Who Do You Think I Am,” has been added to the Light of Day schedule, Jan. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Tim McLoone’s Supper Club in Asbury Park. This event, presented in conjunction with the Asbury Park Music & Film Festival, will include a Q&A session with the film’s producer, Joe Amodei, and director, Nick Mead, hosted by SiriusXM satellite radio personality Jim Rotolo.
