Nils Lofgren, left, with Steven Van Zandt at The Van Buren in Phoenix, Dec. 16.

Nils Lofgren — who replaced Steven Van Zandt as a member of the E Street Band in 1984, and stayed on when Van Zandt returned in 1999 — made a guest appearance with Van Zandt and his Disciples of Soul at a Dec. 16 concert at The Van Buren in Phoenix. Lofgren sang and played guitar on a sizzling version of “Moon Tears,” a song that he wrote and that he recorded with his band Grin for their 1972 album, 1+1. You can watch and listen to the performance on the video embedded below.

Today, Lofgren — who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz. — tweeted on his @nilslofgren account: “Fun was had by all @StevieVanZandt Thanks for having us. @thevanburenphx is a great venue. Cheers”

Van Zandt also sent out tweets saying “PHOENIX ROCKED!” and “Thank you Nils! Great seeing Nils and Amy. Terrific performance!” (Amy is Lofgren’s wife.)

This was the last scheduled show of the Disciples of Soul’s fall tour. Neither Van Zandt nor Lofgren has any confirmed concert appearances for 2019. Springsteen has said there will be no E Street Band tour in 2019.
