Glenn Alexander and Shadowland to perform at Pig Gig 3, with Southside Johnny as guest

by JAY LUSTIG
Glenn Alexander

Singer-guitarist Glenn Alexander leads his own band, Shadowland, in addition to playing in Southside Johnny’s Asbury Jukes.

Pig Gig 3, the third annual pig roast and benefit concert organized by Asbury Jukes guitar virtuoso Glenn Alexander, will feature Alexander and his blues-soul-rock band, Shadowland, as well as the roots-rock band The Lonesome Pines and a guest appearance by Alexander’s boss, Southside Johnny. It will take place Oct. 1 at the Italian American Hall in Scotch Plains, the town in which Kansas native Alexander now lives.

Proceeds will go to the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation in honor of Alexander’s nephew, Jay, who died in 2011 from the rare disease, at the age of 20.

Shadowland — which released its debut album, Glenn Alexander and Shadowland, earlier this year, is stocked with Jukes. The band’s drummer (Tom Seguso), trumpeter (Chris Anderson), saxophonist (John Isley) and trombonist (Neil Pawley) joins singer-guitarist Alexander, singer Oria (Alexander’s daughter) and bassist Greg Novick in the lineup.

Doors will open at 4 p.m., with food at 5 p.m. and music at 6 p.m. The food, as well as beer and wine, is included in the $40 admission price.
