Five Grateful Dead shows at Giants Stadium will be documented in an upcoming boxed set, titled Giants Stadium: 1987, 1989, 1991. The set, which will include 14 CDs plus a DVD of the entire June 17, 1991 show, will be released on Sept. 27. To pre-order, visit dead.net.

The shows were on July 12, 1987; July 9-10, 1989; and June 16-17, 1991. The band backed Bob Dylan, as well as performing on its own, in 1987, but the set with Dylan and the show’s collaborative encore with him will not be included.

Keyboardist Brent Mydland — who joined Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart at the 1987 and 1989 shows — died in 1990. In 1991, the band featured two keyboardists: Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby.

These were the only Giants Stadium shows the band performed in that five-year span, though they did also perform at the nearby Brendan Byrne Arena 10 times over those years, and performed eight other shows at Giants Stadium from 1978 to 1995. According to a press release, “Each show has been mixed from the multitrack master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios in San Rafael, CA, and mastered in HDCD by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering. The first three shows are mixed from 24-track masters and the final two from 1991 are the only Grateful Dead shows ever recorded to 48-track tape.”

The prices for the 14-CD/2-DVD and 14-CD/Blu-ray sets are $149.98 and $159.98, respectively. Digital downloads will also be available from Dead.net.

Also, the June 17, 1991 show will be available as a three-CD ($29.99) or five-LP ($99.98 set), or digitally.

Here are the setlists of the five shows, according to dead.net.
