Bon Jovi has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, next year. From left, original members Richie Sambora, Alec John Such, Jon Bon Jovi, Tico Torres and David Bryan will be inducted, along with current bassist Hugh McDonald.

Longtime Bon Jovi supporter Howard Stern will induct the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, April 14 at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium.

“I had given a lot of thought to who I wanted to induct us,” Bon Jovi said on Stern’s SiriusXM satellite radio show, today. “And so, initially, you think about these big rock stars. And you think about this guy, and then you go, ‘No.’ And this guy and this guy. But the truth is, I only had one choice.”

Bon Jovi has appeared on Stern’s radio show for virtually his entire career, beginning in the mid-’80s. He even participated in shows Stern did at Club Bene in Sayreville — Bon Jovi’s hometown — after Stern was fired from WNBC in 1985.

“Our careers have paralleled, in a lot of ways, and whether it was the ups or the downs, we’ve come through everything together, and we do this, at this point, because we love the people that we work with. We really do love what we do — and we joked about the pain in the ass that it can sometimes be. And then I said, you know, the truth is that nobody knows not only me but the members of the band as well as Howard.”

Guitarist Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi in 2013, but is expected to attend the Cleveland ceremony. Other inductees will include The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, The Cars, Nina Simone and, in the “Early Influence” category, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Bon Jovi will perform at the Prudential Center in Newark, April 7-8. Visit prucenter.com.
