The Smithereens will headline the Jan. 16 Light of Day concert at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park.

The Smithereens will headline the Jan. 16 Light of Day concert at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park.

More specifics have been announced for this year’s 16th annual Light of Day Festival, which will raise money for Parkinson’s disease research via 35 different events, Jan. 8-18.

There will be shows in Montclair, New York and Philadelphia before the main action gets underway in Asbury Park. The Smithereens will headline the main concert, Jan. 16 at the Paramount Theatre, and play their Especially for You album in its entirety. Elsewhere, Remember Jones will perform Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album in its entirety, and Steve Forbert, Eddie Manion and the duo of Peter Asher (of Peter and Gordon) and Albert Lee will headline¬†shows of their own. There will be an “Asbury Underground” series of free shows at downtown Asbury Park galleries, restaurants and other venues on Jan. 16 and 17 (for information, visit, and three different venues will be involved in the “Songwriters by the Sea Boardwalk Crawl” on Jan. 17.

Willie Nile should get some kind of most valuable player award, as he’s signed up to perform at five¬†different festival events. But more than 150¬†artists have volunteered their services, and by the time all the lineups fill out, it could¬†be over 200.

Light of Day has raised more than $3 million over the years. Bruce Springsteen has made unbilled appearances at many of the main Light of Day events over the years, but will not be able to do so this year, as he is kicking off a tour that night (Jan. 16) in Pittsburgh.

Here is the schedule, as it now stands; others performers will be added later. Shows are in Asbury Park unless otherwise noted.
