Kicking off a European tour with his Disciples of Soul band, Steven Van Zandt paid tribute to hometown heroes U2 with a cover of “Out of Control,” a track from U2’s 1980 debut album, Boy.

“We’re gonna try a little something for Dublin … a new version of something old. It applies to the world today,” said Van Zandt when introducing the song.
It’s a thoroughly reimagined, Jersey bar-band version, with an added “We gotta stop Brexit/Somebody stop Brexit” chant.
U2, coincidentally, has a New Jersey show scheduled for tonight (at the Prudential Center in Newark). Maybe they can cover Van Zandt’s “Forever” to return the favor.
U2’s Bono performed on Little Steven’s 1985 all-star protest song “Sun City,” and Van Zandt was among the artists who made guest appearances when U2 performed it at Amnesty International’s “A Conspiracy of Hope” megaconcert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, in 1986 (see video below).
Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul also opened shows for U2 in 1987.
