Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz of The Monkees will bring their Monkees Farewell Tour to New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania in October.

Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz are bringing what they are calling “The Monkees Farewell Tour” to the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank on Oct. 19, with other venues including the Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, Pa., Oct. 22; Town Hall in Manhattan, Oct. 24; and The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., Oct. 28.

Tickets go on sale May 7 at 10 a.m., with pre-sales beginning May 5.

There will also be a show at Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, Oct. 23. (UPDATE: Tickets to these shows will go on sale May 21 at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.com.)

Nesmith and Dolenz’s Monkees bandmates Davy Jones and Peter Tork died in 2012 and 2019, respectively.

In 2018, Nesmith and Dolenz cut a tour short when Nesmith had to have heart surgery, but Nesmith toured with his First National Band later in 2018, and he and Dolenz toured together again in 2019.

In December 2019, Nesmith was asked by Rolling Stone, “Do you ever think about a Monkees farewell tour?,” and he said:

“Well, I had that heart attack about three tours ago. I thought, ‘That was my farewell tour!’ They took my heart out and put it through the washer and dryer and put it back in and it all works good again. I started thinking, ‘I’m healthy. I know how this music goes. I can play it well. I can sing it well. Go out there and do it.’ And that’s what we do. We’re coming to your town. And I’m going to play as long as I can. And when I can’t, I won’t.”

Nesmith is now 78; Dolenz, 76. They have performed together infrequently since The Monkees’ 1960s heyday.

Dolenz, incidentally, is scheduled to take part in a virtual tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger, May 5. Schlesinger, the Fountains of Wayne member who died last year, co-produced and wrote songs for The Monkees 2016 reunion album, Good Times!
