NILS LOFGREN

At his Sept. 28 concert at Cary Memorial Hall in Lexington, Mass., Nils Lofgren dedicated his song “Believe” to Christine Blasey Ford, who had accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Cavanaugh of sexual assault while testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sept. 27.

The show was part of Lofgren’s duo tour with multi-instrumentalist Greg Varlotta. The show’s final tour, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. at the City Winery in New York, is sold out, though there is a waiting list: for information, visit citywinery.com/newyork.

Lofgren released the song on his 1997 album, Acoustic Live. Here are the lyrics and, below them, a YouTube video of the Sept. 27 introduction and performance of it.

Run this race, it’ll make you cry
Big tears black as coal
You fight so hard for some dignity
In a world out of control
I have seen hope wither beyond despair
I’ve seen great men’s visions fail
Yet everyday somewhere the sun does shine
So don’t tell me it’s too late
To believe a little bit in yourself
Is it clear I just want to help?
Both your blue eyes and their tears
They won’t get you far
You must believe a little bit in yourself

Could you believe a little bit in yourself?
Is it clear I just want to help?
Both your blue eyes and their tears
They won’t get you far now
You must believe a little bit in yourself
