“A Song for Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer” takes place on Aug. 21.

Bruce Springsteen, Bob Weir, Lucinda Williams, Brian Fallon and Tom Morello will be among the participants in “A Song for Joe: Celebrating the Life of Joe Strummer.” Jesse Malin will host the two-hour event, which will feature performances and commentary by the artists above and others.

The tribute to the late Clash frontman will be shown at joestrummer.com at 3 p.m. Aug. 21.; there will be no charge to watch, but donations to saveourstages.com will be asked for. The organization seeks “to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States,” according to its website.

Strummer was born on Aug. 21, 1952, and died in 2002 at the age of 50.

Previously unreleased live footage of Strummer will be shown on the special. In addition to the artists mentioned above, other participants will include Jeff Tweedy, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Craig Finn and Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady), Dhani Harrison, Dropkick Murphys, Eugene Hütz (Gogol Bordello), Jim Jarmusch, Joe Ely, Hinds, Steve Buscemi, Shepard Fairey, Cherry Glazerr, Albert Hammond Jr. (The Strokes), Spider Stacy (The Pogues), Beto O’Rourke, Butch Walker, Dave Hause, Matt Dillon, Frank Turner, HR (Bad Brains), The Interrupters and Jesse Dayton.

“To see so many musicians and artists come forward to honor Joe is really touching,” said Strummer’s widow, Lucinda Tait, in a press release. “Community was always important to him. … Joe would have loved this.”

Malin is co-producing the event with Jeff Raspe, music director of the public radio station 90.5 The Night (WBJB-FM, Lincroft); and Joe Strummer estate manager David Zonshine. Malin and Raspe have previously presented a series of Strummer tribute concerts in New Jersey and New York.
