Bassist Mike Mesaros, who rejoined The Smithereens for a benefit concert in October, will be back with the band for four more reunion shows in January.

He will play with the group at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, Jan. 20; the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York, Jan. 21; The State Theatre in Falls Church, Va., Jan. 27; and the Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, Md., Jan. 8. For information, visit officialsmithereens.com.

“The original line-up recently played together at a fundraiser in NJ, and the magic and power of the original sound was still there! See you in January …,” the band posted on its Facebook page.

There are currently no announced plans for Mesaros to do anything with the band beyond these four shows. The band’s current full-time bassist is Severo Jornacion.

The Oct. 29 concert — which took place at the Hungarian American Citizens Club in Woodbridge and benefited a scholarship fund honoring guitarist Jim Babjak’s late wife Betty — included the band’s 1986 debut album Especially for You in its entirety as well as 13 other songs.
