Renaissance will perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday.
I think it’s safe to say that many fans of the progressive-rock band Renaissance are also fans of Yes. So it’s worth noting that those attending Renaissance’s shows Friday and Saturday at the Victoria Theater of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark will hear not just one but two Yes keyboardists.
New Jersey’s own Tom Brislin, who played with Yes on a 2001 tour, is currently a member of Renaissance. And Patrick Moraz, who was in Yes from 1974 to 1976 (and played on its classic Relayer album), will be joining the band in Newark as a “special guest.”
“Patrick is one of my favorite keyboardists, and it goes without saying that his work with Yes had a huge impact on my music,” wrote Brislin on Facebook. “He will join us onstage for a few numbers, and it will be the first time we play together.”
Fronted by singer Annie Haslam, Renaissance also currently includes keyboardist Rave Tesar, bassist Leo Traversa, drummer Frank Pagano and guitarist Mark Lambert.
The band’s latest album, last year’s Symphony of Light, featured guest appearances by Ian Anderson and John Wetton, and was dedicated to the band’s longtime guitarist and songwriter Michael Dunford, who died in 2012. (Dunford co-wrote most of the album’s material.)
