The great heavy metal band Judas Priest will release its 19th studio album, Firepower, on March 9, and one of the band’s guitarists, Richie Faulkner, will exclusively introduce one song an hour — talking about each one at the top of the hour, beginning at 6 a.m. — on WSOU (89.5 FM), the student-run “loud rock” radio station at Seton Hall University in South Orange.

WSOU can also be heard online at wsou.net.

WSOU music director Dylan Gordeuk said in a press release: “There are few classic heavy metal acts that have the sonic variety of Judas Priest. “With Firepower, listeners will find songs that not only echo the intensity of ‘Painkiller’ but the melody of songs like ‘Bloodstone.’ With a focus on the former, I expect this album to be regarded as a resurgence of Judas Priest. The album breaks from the trend of copy-and-paste classic metal releases by offering fans Priest turned up to 11.”

The band, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year (Faulkner has been a member since 2011), performs at the Prudential Center in Newark, March 20 at 7 p.m., with Saxon and Black Star Riders opening. Visit prucenter.com.
