Rush to perform in New Jersey, maybe for the last time?

Rush's 40th anniversary tour, R40 Live, will come to Newark and New York.

Rush’s 40th anniversary tour, R40 Live, will come to Newark and New York.

It’s not a farewell tour per se, but a press release issued today to announce Rush’s upcoming 40th anniversary tour, R40 Live, says “it will most likely be their last major tour of this magnitude.”

The tour will hit 34 North American cities, and tickets go on sale Jan. 30 through livenation.com. The tour, which begins May 8 in Tulsa and ends Aug. 1 in Los Angeles, comes to the Prudential Center in Newark on June 27 and Madison Square Garden in New York on June 29.

There will also be a pre-sale through Citi’s Private Pass Program, beginning Jan. 27, and deluxe ticket packages will beavailable through VIPNation.com.

The 40th anniversary, by the way, does not date from the band’s start, which was in 1968, but from thesolidification of the progressive-rock band’s current lineup (singer-bassist Geddy Lee, drummer-lyricist Neil Peart and guitarist Alex Lifeson) and the release of the debut, self-titledRush album in 1974. (So it’s actually a 41st anniversary tour, to be precise.)
