Little Steven will perform at the Upstate jam at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, April 21.

When it was announced that Steven Van Zandt and his Disciples of Soul will perform at House of Independents in Asbury Park, April 21 at 4 p.m., as part of the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival, many of his fans assumed he would probably stop by the Paramount Theatre at 7:30 p.m. that night, for the Upstage Jam concert.

Now, his participation has been officially confirmed. He has been added as a “special guest” for the Jam, which will follow the world premiere of “Just Before the Dawn.” This documentary about the Asbury Park music scene focuses on Asbury Park’s Upstage club, where Van Zandt, Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and many other rock musicians got their start in the ’60s and early ’70s.

Other confirmed participants in the Upstage Jam include Southside Johnny and former E Street Band members David Sancious, Ernest “Boom” Carter and Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez, along with Sonny Kenn, Ricky DeSarno, Joe Petillo, Richard Blackwell, Albee Tellone, Chris Plunkett, Paul Whistler, Billy Ryan, Gerry Carboy, Tommy LaBella and the Lakehouse Jr. Pros. Jeff Kazee of Southside Johnny’s Asbury Jukes will be the music director.

It has also been announced that the Upstage Jam will be filmed by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch.

In addition to these two shows on the 21st, Van Zandt will also perform with the Disciples of Soul at the Paramount Theatre on April 22. Those making a donation of at least $10 to NJArts.net by midnight April 17 will have a chance to win two tickets to this show; for information, click here.
