Nils Lofgren, Graham Parker, Richard Barone, Lucy Kaplansky and James Maddock will be among the artists on Willie Nile Uncovered (Celebrating 40 Years of Music), a two-CD, 26-track tribute album due out on Aug. 21 on the Paradiddle label. Nile released his self-titled debut album in 1980.
Other contributors include Jen Chapin, Richard Shindell, Elliott Murphy, Dan Bern, John Gorka, Slaid Cleaves, Kenny White and Emily Duff. Nile’s bass player, Johnny Pisano, contributes “One Guitar Mon’,” his reggae interpretation of Nile’s anthemic “One Guitar.” (You can listen to that below, along with Lofgren’s “All God’s Children.”)
“When I first heard there was going to be a tribute album,” said Nile in a press release, “I was a little embarrassed as I don’t feel I’m any more deserving than anyone else for an album like this but after a few glasses of red wine and hearing the album I was elated. It was startling to hear such unique, different and poignant interpretations of my songs.
“Heartfelt thanks to all involved for making this songwriter’s journey through the back roads of a soul more than worth the effort.”
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the hunger relief organization, Rock Can Roll.
