Steven Van Zandt and his wife Maureen, Constantine Maroulis, Vincent Pastore and others have made a socially distanced music video in support of their friend Nick Cordero. You can watch it below.
The song, “Live Your Life,” was written by the Tony-nominated actor, whose battle with COVID-19 has led to two months in intensive care and the amputation of his leg, among other complications. The video follows other tribute versions of the song. You can also watch them below, and listen to Cordero’s own performance of the song, from 2018.
“Nick and I share the same birthday,” said Maroulis. “We toured together in ‘Rock of Ages’ for a year and have been close friends for 10 years. He’s the most kind and talented man I know … an absolute warrior. To have been through what he’s been through over the last couple of months proves how epic of a man he is. You can tell by the worldwide outpouring of love for his story and his family how much he means to all of us.
“He’s our brother. We are with him, Amanda and Elvis!” continued Maroulis, referring to Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, and their young son.
“We try to lift them up with love and positivity every moment of the day! It’s wonderful to see his song take off all over the world and see people submit videos from all corners of the globe! Can’t wait to rock out with him in person again sometime very soon! This is not how his story ends!”
Sammy Semenza, who played Carmine Lupertazzi III in “The Sopranos,” directed the video and appears in it, as do members of the New York-based Renegade Theatre Company, for which Pastore (who played Big Pussy on “The Sopranos” and co-starred with Cordero in the Broadway production of “Bullets Over Broadway”) and Maureen Van Zandt serve as artistic directors.
Cordero received his Tony nomination in 2014 for his work in “Bullets Over Broadway.” His other Broadway credits include “Waitress,” “A Bronx Tale” and “Rock of Ages,” and he has also performed in Off-Broadway’s “The Toxic Avenger” and television’s “Blue Bloods” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
A GoFundMe fund has been created to support him and his family.
