The fifth in a series of benefit concerts for NJArts.net took place at Crossroads in Garwood, Dec. 9, with inspired performances by Eryn, Nalani & Sarina, Lisa Bouchelle and Katie Henry, and a grand finale performance by all of them, on the Aretha Franklin hit, “Chain of Fools.” Check out a video of it, below.

Among those lending instrumental support throughout the evening were keyboardist John Ginty (who has toured with the Dixie Chicks, among many others), guitarist Matt O’Ree (a former member of Bon Jovi) and bassist Hal B. Selzer (the current bassist in Joan Jett’s Blackhearts).

The theme of the show was “Women Rock New Jersey,” and the evening started with a panel discussion featuring all artists, which I moderated, on the subject of navigating the music business as a woman. I taped the discussion and will do a post on it, but that will take me a little time to get together. I’m posting this now, mainly because I want people to have an opportunity to see this phenomenal performance, first.

As mentioned, the event was a benefit for NJArts.net. Those who couldn’t make it, but would still like to contribute some money to keep the web site going — and events like this one happening — can do so here.

Here is the “Chain of Fools” video and, below that, videos from the sets by Nalani & Sarina, and Bouchelle.

  1. What an AMAZING handful of super talented women in one place at one time. Except for Nalani and Sarina I did not know them, but I know them now, and I want to know them better. Anybody who can give me chills one minute and smiles the next deserves top cool in my book of music. More folks have to see these dedicated babes- so hats off to them. To Jay and Tom and Crossroads & et al who made it possible, and who continue by their spirited support, make live music in NJ something special!
