Yes bassist and co-founder Chris Squire has been diagnosed with acute erythroid leukemia, and will stay at his Phoenix tour, receiving treatments, rather than joining the band on its upcoming tour, which comes to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Aug. 8, and Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City on Aug. 9.

Replacing him will be Billy Sherwood, who played guitar and keyboards with the band as a touring member in 1994, and a full band member from 1997 to 2000.

Squire said in a press release: “This will be the first time since the band formed in 1968 that Yes will have performed live without me. But the other guys and myself have agreed that Billy Sherwood will do an excellent job of covering my parts and the show as a whole will deliver the same Yes experience that our fans have come to expect over the years.”

The Newark and Atlantic City shows are double bills with Toto.

The other Yes members on the tour will be guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes and singer Jon Davison.
