Evan Toth is the host of “Garden State Sound.”

Rarely has a radio program and an internet project been so well matched: On Friday, I was a guest on Evan Toth’s “Garden State Sound” program on WFDU.FM, talking about NJArts.net’s 350 Jersey Songs project, and playing and talking about various 350 Jersey Songs selections. If you missed it, it is now archived online and you can listen to it at WFDU.FM, at EvanToth.com/radio or thevinyldistrict.com … or just by scrolling to the bottom of this post.

Toth, who is also a singer-songwriter, started “Garden State Sound” — which can be heard live on WFDU.FM Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. — last year.

“The last radio show I had, ‘Good Music,’ was really focused on being a broad show,” he says. “I wanted to do a little bit of the opposite of that. I wanted to really focus on something, and I’m in New Jersey, I love being in New Jersey, I’m proud of this state, and I thought it would be fun to do a show about just New Jersey music.”

Previous guests on the shows have included Joe Deninzon of Stratospheerius, Brian Musikoff of Stuyvesant, fado singer Nathalie Pires and vinyl record expert audio critic Michael Fremer. Val Emmich will be the guest this Friday.

350 Jersey Songs began in September 2014, in honor of the 350th anniversary of the creation of New Jersey, and features a daily post about a Jersey-related song. No. 268 will be posted today.
