Crossroads Theatre Company to co-present ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ ‘ at NJPAC

The Crossroads Theatre Company will co-present “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” at NJPAC in February.

Like the George Street Playhouse, which announced its temporary home for its 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons this week, the Crossroads Theatre Company will be temporarily displaced while a new performing arts center is being built in New Brunswick.

Unlike George Street, which will stay at the former site of the Agricultural Museum of New Jersey for two years, Crossroads will bring shows to various theaters throughout the state. The first production that has been announced is “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” which Crossroads and NJPAC will co-present at NJPAC’s Victoria Theater, Feb. 1-4.

“Ain’t Misbehavin’,” a revue built around the songs of Fats Waller, ran on Broadway from 1978 to 1982 and won three Tonys, including Best Musical. It was also revived on Broadway in 1988 and 1989.

André DeShields, who was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in the Best Actor category for his work in the original Broadway production, directed and choreographed “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” at Crossroads Theatre Company in 2011, and will be the director and choreographer for the NJPAC production, too.

Tickets to on sale May 19 at 10 a.m.; visit njpac.org.
