EVEN ZIMMERMAN FOR MURPHYMADE

Harry Connick, Jr. and the company of “The Sting” at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.

The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, which began previews of a new musical version of the Oscar-winning 1973 movie “The Sting” on March 29, has released publicity photos for it. I’ve put together a gallery with the five photos of one of its stars, Harry Connick Jr., below.

The play officially opens on April 8 and runs through April 29. I will post my review on April 9.

For more information, visit papermill.org.

Connick plays Henry Gondorff, the character portrayed by Paul Newman in the movie. Among those joining him in the cast are J. Harrison Ghee as Johnny Hooker (the character by played by Robert Redford in the movie), Peter Benson as The Erie Kid, Janet Dacal as Loretta, Christopher Gurr as J.J. Singleton, Tom Hewitt as Doyle Lonnegan, Richard Kline as Kid Twist, Kevyn Morrow as Luther, Kate Shindle as Billie, and Robert Wuhl as Snyder.

John Rando (who won a Tony for directing “Urinetown the Musical” in 2002) directs, with choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by Fred Lassen. The book is by Bob Martin, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis with Connick.
