Joe Iconis wrote the music and lyrics for the offbeat musical “Be More Chill,” which premiered at the Two River Theater in Red Bank in 2015, and is now on Broadway (and just received eight Drama Desk nominations). And his new musical, “Love in Hate Nation,” will also premiere at Two River Theater, as part of its 2019-20 season.
It’s described in a press release as a “rock romance” set in a reform school for girls in the 1960s, and will run from Nov. 9 to Dec. 1.
(April 30 Update: Iconis has also been nominated for a Tony, for the “Be More Chill” score.)
Here is the lineup for the season, which will also feature Shakespeare’s comedy “Twelfth Night,” August Wilson’s “Radio Golf” and other plays. Season subscriptions are now on sale, and single tickets will go on sale July 15.

Sept. 21-Oct. 13: “Cyrano,” by Jason O’Connell and Brenda Withers (adapted from the play by Edmond Rostand), and directed by Meredith McDonough. Co-produced with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.
Nov. 9-Dec. 1: “Love in Hate Nation,” music, lyrics and book by Joe Iconis, directed by John Simpkins.
Jan. 11-Feb. 2: “Twelfth Night,” by William Shakespeare, directed by Sara Holdren.
Jan 31-Feb. 9: “A Little Shakespeare: Twelfth Night,” by William Shakespeare, adapted and directed by Em Weinstein. A 75-minute family-friendly version of the play, performed and supported backstage by high-school students.
Feb. 29-March 22: “Radio Golf,” by August Wilson, directed by Brandon J. Dirden.
April 11-May 10, 2020: “The Hombres,” by Tony Meneses.
June 6-28, 2020: “Lackawanna Blues,” written, performed and directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, music performed by Chris Thomas King, original music composed by Bill Sims Jr., additional music composed by Chris Thomas King.
