These are some of the props and costumes that the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will offer for sale on Oct. 19.
Do you know what happens to the costumes, props and pieces of scenery that a theater creates for a specific play? No? Well, I don’t either, though I assume they usually just get thrown away.
That’s not the case for the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, though, which makes them available to the public in an annual sale. This year’s sale takes place Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the theater’s production facility at 3 Vreeland Road in Florham Park.
A press release promises “one-of-a-kind items from the Theatre’s prop, costume, and scenery stock. From mask and fabric, to decorative and furniture items, to scenic elements, to fabric remnants, there is sure to be something for everyone from bargain hunters to quilters to drama teachers.”

The Madison theater began previews of its current production, “Henry VIII,” on Oct. 15, and opening night is Oct. 18. It also will present a special Halloween-themed show — “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” featuring macabre readings from Shakespeare, Poe, Lovecraft and others, plus live theremin music — on Oct. 27.
