Lots of country and hard-rock, no hip-hop or current pop at PNC Bank Arts Center this summer

Jason Aldean will kick off the summer season at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, May 18.

With concerts by Luke Bryan and the Charlie Daniels Band going on sale at the PNC Bank Arts Center going on sale this week, 30 shows are now confirmed at the Holmdel amphitheater. Surely, some more will be added. But it’s possible, now, to say how the summer is shaping up.

There is a lot of hard-rock, classic-rock and country on the list, and a few comedy, world music and family shows. What’s notably absent is hip-hop and current pop music. In fact, NO ACT currently in the Top 40 of Billboard magazine’s album chart is now booked at PNC this summer. Furthermore, only four artists in the Top 100, all country acts (Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown) are on the list.

Of course, some non-country artists in the Top 100 will be at other New Jersey venues this summer. Cardi B, Meek Mill, Migos, Rich the Kid, City Girls and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, for instance, are all on the roster of the Hot 97 Summer Jam at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, June 2; Hozier will be at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, July 26; Shawn Mendes will perform at the Prudential Center in Newark, Aug. 10-11.

But, country artists excepted, current chart success does not seem to have anything to do with being booked at the PNC Bank Arts Center.
