Online offerings for theater lovers are being compiled through the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s Stages Online project.

For more than 20 years, The New Jersey Theatre Alliance has presented its Stages Festival, with scores of free or discounted theater events at venues throughout the state. This year’s Stages Festival was scheduled to begin in March, and most of the events, of course, were canceled because of the coronavirus.

Many of the NJTA’s 30-plus members have created some kind of free digital content for their patrons since they have been unable to present live shows, and the NJTA is helping them get the word out with Stages Online, a digital directory subtitled “A Celebration of Theatre During Difficult Times.” You can visit it at njtheatrealliance.org/stages-online.

So much is being offered, via so many different web sites, that is is hard to keep track of everything that is out there. Stages Online provides a valuable service by collecting much of it in one place.

Among the offerings currently on it, for instance, are play readings, children’s activities, interviews, storytelling and more from the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, the Two River Theater in Red Bank, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison, the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, the Growing Stage in Netcong, Luna Stage in West Orange, New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch, Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre in Summit, Art House Productions in Jersey City, Pushcart Players, and The Theater Project in Union, among others.

The listings will be regularly updated as events are added.
