Shows to be produced by Asbury Park Theater Company in 2026 include “Our Town,” “Teeth” and “Once.”
The Asbury Park Theater Company, which launched in 2022, will present its most ambitious season yet in 2026, with seven theater and music productions, including two New Jersey premieres. All of the productions except for Jesse’s Malin’s “Silver Manhattan” will be at Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove; Malin’s show will be at The Vogel at The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank.
Here are the shows. For information, or tickets (to everything except for “Silver Manhattan,” which will go on sale through Ticketmaster.com at a time TBA), visit ticketleap.events/events/aptheaterco or AsburyParkTheaterCompany.org.
Here is the season:
Feb. 13-14: Remember Jones, who is Asbury Park Theater Company’s producing artistic director, and his band will perform Joe Cocker’s 1970 Mad Dogs & Englishmen double live album — also featuring Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge and others — in its entirety.
May 21-31: Thornton Wilder’s classic 1938 drama “Our Town,” with a post-show discussion with Mary English, director of the Thornton Wilder Society, on May 24. Directed by Bailey Dumlao.
July 24-26: “Footloose” (Youth Edition). Featuring participants in the AP Theater KIDS! Camp Program. With choreography by Serena Soffer, who was in the show’s original Broadway cast.
Aug. 15: Jesse Malin’s “Silver Manhattan: A Musical Guide to Survival,” previously only presented at The Gramercy Theatre in New York. Malin, who is recovering from a 2023 spinal stroke, has described it (see video below) as “a musical, a play, a live concert. It’s kind of this mixed thing … it’s gonna be onstage with my full band, playing a lot of the songs that you know, but it’s a story, and it’s from my life, you know — from childhood stuff, characters in New York, a New York that doesn’t exist, about manifesting dreams, and overcoming hardships, and all this stuff in these last couple years — in this show. It’s a feel good thing, don’t worry. There’ll be some bits and some jokes.”
Sept. 25-Oct. 4: “Once the Musical,” the stage adaptation of the 2007 film “Once,” which included the Academy Award-winning song “Falling Slowly.” Directed by Remember Jones, with music direction by Michael Gilch. The show’s music and lyrics were written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who perform together as the duo The Swell Season.
Nov. 13-22: “Teeth,” the New Jersey premiere of a musical based on the 2007 horror/comedy film “Teeth.” Directed and choreographed by the show’s original off-Broadway choreographer, Long Branch’s Raja Feather Kelly.
Dec. 12: “A Big Band Holiday to Remember.” Asbury Park Theater Company’s third annual fundraising event.
