Legendary bluesman Buddy Guy turned 90 on July 30, and the day after that, played his first show as a nonagenarian at Ovation Hall at Atlantic City’s Ocean Casino Resort, where the crowd broke out into a spontaneous “Happy Birthday to You” (see clip below).
He also performed at BergenPAC in Englewood, Aug. 4, and will be at The State Theatre in New Brunswick, Aug. 8 at 8 p.m.; visit stnj.org.
Guy released his latest album, Ain’t Done with the Blues, in 2025. The same year, he made a memorable appearance in the Oscar-winning film “Sinners.”
He is scheduled to remain on the road with his Buddy Guy 90 Tour until the end of October, with a sold-out tribute concert taking place at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Oct. 1. It will feature Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., Jon Batiste, Robert Cray, Shemekia Copeland, Samantha Fish and many others, and is titled “Buddy’s Got the Blues.”
“We’ll make it a night not just for me, but for the folks who taught us, the friends we’ve played with, and the ones coming up behind us,” said Guy, when the show was announced. “I hope you’ll help me celebrate 90 years of living, loving, and playing the Blues.”
