Singer-songwriter Robert Killianreleased his breezy anthem “I Like the Jersey Shore” as a single in 1987, featuring former E Streeter Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez on drums and another Asbury Park music scene mainstay, Big Danny Gallagher, on dobro.
In addition singing the praises of beach life,Killiansqueezes as many Jersey Shore city names as possible into the final verse:
Take me to Atlantic City
Cape May or Ocean City, Belmar or Asbury
Seaside, Point Pleasant or Long Branch
Sea Bright is fun for sure
Well, I’ll take a book with me to Sandy Hook
I like the Jersey Shore
Killianalso made a low-budget charmer of a video for the song, with Lopez, Gallagher (who died in 2007) and others. Check it outbelow.
New Jersey celebratedits 350th birthday lastyear. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we are markingthe occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, for almost a year — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. We started in September 2014, and will keep going until late in the summer.
If you would like to suggest any songs to be included, please let me know in the comments section underneath the video. And if you want to see the entire list, either alphabetically or in the order the songs were selected, click here.
