Bruce Springsteen performs at a No KIngs rally in St. Paul, Minnesota, on March 28.
“Let me hear ya!,” Bruce Springsteen yelled, twice — beseeching the crowd to chant along with him on the line “ICE out now!” from his song “Streets of Minneapolis” — March 28 at a No Kings rally that took place at the State Capitol in St. Paul, Minnesota. You can watch his performance below.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz introduced Springsteen, who performed solo, backing himself on acoustic guitar and harmonica. Before starting to sing and play, Springsteen said:
This past winter, federal troops brought death and terror to the streets of Minneapolis. Well, they picked the wrong city! The power and the solidarity of the people of Minneapolis and of Minnesota was an inspiration to the entire country. Your strength and your commitment told us that this is still America, and this reactionary nightmare and these invasions of American cities will not stand. You gave us hope. You gave us courage. And for those who gave their lives … Renée Good, mother of three, brutally murdered; Alex Pretti, VA nurse, executed by ICE, shot in the back and left to die in the street without even the decency of our lawless government investigating their deaths … their bravery, their sacrifice and their names will not be forgotten.
The performance, and the rest of the rally, was viewable online, via a livestream. Among the other musical highlights was a version of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin’ ” by Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers, with Tom Morello. You can watch that at the 5-minute mark of the video underneath the Springsteen video.
The rally was one of thousand No Kings events that took place, all over the world, to protest the policies and actions of the Trump administration.
Springsteen also performed “Streets of Minneapolis” at a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Democracy Now! organization that took place at Riverside Church in Manhattan, March 23.
He will kick off a tour with The E Street Band at The Target Center in Minneapolis on March 31.
