Bruce Springsteen will release “Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition” in October.

The film “Deliver Me From Nowhere” focuses on Bruce Springsteen during the era in which he made his Nebraska album. And on Oct. 17, a week before it arrives in theaters, he will release a five-disc boxed set, Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition.

According to a press release, the set will include a remaster of the original album plus “many never-before-heard and previously-undiscovered recordings (including) The E Street Band’s fabled ‘Electric Nebraska’ sessions and solo outtakes from the era, as well as a newly shot performance film of ‘Nebraska’ in its entirety.”

You can listen to one song from the boxed set — a previously unreleased trio version of “Born in the U.S.A.” featuring drummer Max Weinberg and bassist Garry Tallent — below.

“We threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece,” Springsteen says of this song. “It was kinda like punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring ‘Nebraska’ into the electric world.”

The film was shot in April of this year at The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank. “I think in playing these songs again to be filmed, their weight impressed upon me,” says Springsteen. “I’ve written a lot of other narrative records, but there’s just something about that batch of songs on ‘Nebraska’ that holds some sort of magic.”
